Big Handbags / Large Purses

Big handbags is a British term, large purses would be the North American equivalent but we are essentially talking about the same thing.

Since almost every woman in the Western world carries one of these everywhere they go, you may want to think about the best style for the curvy clothing wardrobe.

P.S. As an aside; to a Brit, a purse is what we call a small (money) bag containing coins or notes which will sit inside the bigger handbag, I understand it is sometimes called a pouch in the U.S. I will use the two terms interchangeably throughout.

Big Handbags Rule

This is not a schoolgirl thing, a big bag does not trump a small bag by simply being larger. It is not a matter of style either. There are plenty of beautiful smaller versions about. So what is it all about?

It is that old favourite, illusion. Smoke and mirrors, the ability to fool the eye. Simply put, big handbags can be more distractive than their smaller cousins.

Why does this matter? Because if you are trying to move attention down away from your bust, large purses will be far more successful because they catch the eye more readily.

Yes that is it. It is hardly rocket science is it?

Catching The Eye

Big handbags or big purses are more visible, often have sharply defined edges, patterns or detail which draw the eye. Drawing the eye away from that bountiful chest is what we are after. Consequently, large, colourful or sparkly handbags which catch the eye are particularly helpful.

They can be worn over the shoulder, as long as both the top and bottom edges are lower than the bustline. It is a very useful accessory to distract the eye.

How to Wear Handbags

The sharp eyed amongst you may spot that the photo on the left is the Queen, in a photo taken on a trip to Australia in the 1050's. Hopefully I will not be carted off to the Tower Of London for a quick beheading for using Her Majesty to illustrate a point.

Theoretically large purses are best worn, or better still carried, away from the body. A bag being carried by hand will probably be hanging around knee height. Over the crook of the arm also works well. This is a long way from that chest and will clearly take the eye down.

Is that pointless because the eye can simply shoot back up? Well yes and no. The fact is our brains work at incredibly fast speeds and first impressions count (see below).

If you are going to wear it slung over your shoulders, simply be aware where the edges are. Do not have it horizontal with your bust as it will create a wider block.

Of course security is everything so do whatever is safest if you are in an area where you feel vulnerable.

The Psychology

I am always loathe to talk about the psychology involved as it can easily come across as as mumbo jumbo, or cod science. So please bear with me.

When you first see someone new your eye will travel over that person at light speed, the brain will compute the various observations and your mind will make a judgement about their appearance in a flash.

Once our minds have instinctively come to a judgement about someone, we are more comfortable sticking to that decision than change our minds. So coming the bottom line is first impressions count.

If you can distract their eye away from that large bust in those first fleeting moments, they may not simply come to the initial impression that you are a pair of massive boobs on legs.

Do not get me wrong, this is hardly the be all and end all; it merely comes under the category of possibly helpful side issues. But for those ladies who are really conscious about their boobs and are looking for any means to distract attention from them, this may help.

If nothing else, this concept may be something in the back of your mind next time you are looking to buy a new bag and if you are not too bothered either way, why not opt for big handbags.

Avoid Purses Under The Arm

A small bag clutched under the arm is a particularly bad idea for a lady with large boobs as it creates extra bulk in the area of the chest, but such bags are few and far between these days other than for posh evening occasions.

If your handbag has carrying straps´╗┐ or a handle. Use it! all these tips on accessories are only small, perhaps subtle nuances but why do anything to draw attention to that bust if you can avoid it?

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan
