Bra Flash

Bra flash, does it matter? This really does come down to personal preference but it is certainly a subject worthy of consideration. Some women really do not like to see bits of bra poking out, on themselves or others, whilst others simply do not care.

Like many things to do with clothing malfunctions it is a matter of degree, circumstance and personal attitude. It is very different seeing a slight glimpse of a bra from a side angle under an arm say, as oppose to a serious colour clash, brassiere strap with little attempt at being hidden.

It could have been worse, the size label could be showing
Clearly she has made an effort with her outfit, so why?

The main reason I raise the issue is because it can bring unwanted attention to your bust. There you are, in a well fitting, colour co-ordinated outfit that suits you well; it importantly fits over your ample bust and your chest is no longer quite so obvious to all and sundry.

However, a flash of visible bra can spark a series of inter-related thoughts in others minds.

Bra = Breasts = Have a look at the boobs = Wow.

Suddenly, you have opened up a line of thought which was not previously there.

Am I am going over the top? Some will certainly think so and perhaps they are right. However I am merely raising the issue to allow you to think about it. There is certainly a possibility that bra flash can bring unwanted attention and only you can judge how much that bothers you.

Surely this makes you look like you do not care about your appearance?
Not even a white bra?

Bra Flash - Where It Usually Occurs

This is obvious so I will keep it short. The three likely danger spots are:

  1. the straps showing (photos above)
  2. the side boob area
  3. spilling over the top of your neckline
Just so you know I am not immune too!
The bane of a big busted ladies life

Is This Unfair?

Yes of course it is unfair. You may feel this is all a bit absurd; that something so minor as showing a part of a bra should matter to some. However the fact is, that it does.

It was a bit of a lightbulb moment to me as a young girl when I realised that it is a universal truth that women actually dress with half a mind on what other women will think about what they are wearing, as opposed to how men might react.

Think about it. Does it mean more to you when a woman you do not know says something complimentary about what you are wearing, as opposed to a man? When one of your friends or colleagues says something genuinely flattering about your outfit, rather than a throw-away platitude.

It matters. When other women think we look good, it really means something. It can lift your entire mood and that garment or outfit can instantly become a firm favourite. Conversely when another woman makes snippy remarks, frowns or points something out to a friend about what you are wearing, it can ruin your day.

It is therefore perhaps the reaction of other women to the sight of our underwear which might dictate what we wear or how we wear it. Is that right? Probably not but many of us think that way.

Is It Worse For Big Boobed Ladies?

...and the bra clearly does not fit

I am not sure. Again it depends on your perspective. The fact is brassieres for the well endowed tend to have bigger bands / straps than those for smaller sizes. Many people will not be used to seeing these and may be surprised at the size of the bra, which will raise the curiousity level.

For others, it is simply a matter of trying to avoid any extra reason to draw attention to one's bust and a bra flash will have the effect of drawing the eye unnecessarily.

Of course, it can only look worse if you have a badly fitting bra. The very fact that you are reading a site like this means that you are less likely to do this, but it is still worth seeing the effects and reminding yourself of the consequences.

Visible Panty Line Versus Bra Flash

Visible panty line 1
Full House! Visible panty line and bra flash

VPL a clothing issue for all women, big busted or not.

I was speaking to someone the other day about the irony of the situation relating to VPL as oppose to bra flash. Even women who are indifferent to an odd flash of brassiere generally are very keen to avoid  VPL. Why is that? Both are 'under-wear'.

Why is even the indentation, not sight, of ones panties / knickers / under-crackers so bad and yet the actual sight of a strap or side panel of a bra possibly acceptable?

Is there something odd in the fact that a woman who goes commando / without panties, is potentially a brazen harlot in some people's eyes and yet most women do not want anyone to see even the slightest hint that they are wearing panties?

Visible panty line is often quoted amongst fashion and style pages amongst the top clothing mistakes. Why? You probably have always agreed with this consciously or sub-consciously but if you really think about it, it is a bit odd.

This is also almost an entirely female pre-occupation. It is women who worry, or look with amusement or scorn at another woman's VPL. Men do not seem to care. In fact many men probably do not even know what VPL is. Seriously, ask them. And if they do know, ask them their opinion on it. You will be amazed how indifferent they are.

The Whale tail

A much less common sight these days, a whale tail
A whale tail is flashing

We even had a rather absurd 'fashion statement' a few years back where it was de rigeur (amongst some) to deliberately flash the top of a thong over the top of pants / trousers. Apparently it was called a whale tail. Thankfully the whale tail was a very short lived fad but struck me at the time as particularly ironic.

As you can see from the real whale tail below, I think this is one best left to nature for dramatic effect. However you can see where the nickname comes from.

A proper whale tail but you can see hwere the nickname comes from

Some might prefer the comfort or consider it sexier but I think most of us would argue that a thong is primarily worn as it reduces the VPL effect. Literally to stop others seeing your panty line / the fact that you are wearing panties. It is therefore more than a little ridiculous surely, to deliberately have the top of the thong showing?

I do not think for one moment either of the ladies featured in the photos above were deliberately flashing, these are simple wardrobe malfunctions.

Sorry, I know I have gone off at a tangent when this page is meant to be discussing bra flash but the whole subject of VPL was always one of those daft issues I have never really got my own head around and at least if I have drifted a little, it is on the related subject of visible underwear.

So in summary, how you feel about the bra flash is very personal, some care considerably more than others. I just wanted to highlight the issue so you can make your own judgement.

To go back to the section on what not to wear for large busted women, or alternatively head back to the home page at style for women with big breasts.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

OK, so mistakes happen

Wardrobe malfunction

Now I am not actually discussing wardobe malfunctions, they can happen to any of us - just hopefully not very often.

Bra Showing

Bra flash

Bra flash, can be relatively minor, or less so....

Why wear a bra that clearly does fit with your top

The straps of brassieres can be difficult to hide with certain outfits and it is a very personal decision as to whether you care about this.

...and the size label showing too!

Maybe it is just me, but the actual size / care tag hanging out of the back is like nails down a blackboard. I literally wince and feel an uncontrollable urge to want to go and tuck it in for her.
