The Crewneck and Boatneck,
Neither Work Well On A Large Bust

Two more poor choices of neckline for a busty woman are the crewneck and boatneck. Why? Simply because they are high necklines and present a huge swathe of material beneath.

First the boatneck.

The Boatneck

Elegant on the right body shape - just not you, oh busty personage
Oh well, at least by knowing some lovely tops do not suit a big bust you have won half the battle

A boatneck, or if we are being posh a Bateau neckline, is to be generally avoided for the simple rule that there is too much material going on across the chest and this style does nothing to break it up.

It does have excellent facets, such as modesty and style. Even though quite a lot of your shoulders may be exposed in a modest manner, that flesh runs in an essentially horizontal plane. We do not want the eye travelling horizontally.

So whilst there is no cleavage on show, the mind’s eye still sees a large  block of material and just thinks...big. This is not a concept we wish to associate with, anywhere near our breasts. You will also find that material can often sit on your bust as if it's a shelf.

I have yet to find a good picture of a women with a lot up top in a boatneck top. Neither of the ladies above are particularly big in the chesticles department but picture your own bust.....this is usually considered one of the bad necklines for generous breasts.

On a side-note, the boat neckline accentuates your shoulders which can be flattering for bigger hips because it balances them out; but it is particularly disastrous if you have narrow hips as you will look even more top-heavy.

Most necklines can be used for better or worse under a jacket but a boatneck top generally looks better on its own.....just on a less generously proportioned chest.

The Crewneck

Generally any high neckline style is to be avoided by busty women. This actually appears to contravene good sense. You would be forgiven for thinking that material which goes up to your neck is modest and therefore suitable. Modest possibly, suitable? Generally not.

Why? Because there is no actual break between the neck and bust, it is all seemingly joined in one big block of wide open space. The words ‘wide’ and 'space' say it all.

Crewneck T shirts are also a good example of this. Now I am not qualified to comment on American political figures but Sarah Palin who is not known for a big chest looks decidedly busty in this crewneck t shirt.

Svetlana Medvedeva (on the right) is an icon of fashionable stylish clothes for busty women. This is one of the few outfits I think she 'boobed' on.

What You Think You Look Like ...
and What You Probably Look Like

This is possibly the worst of the bad necklines for big breasts because it looks harmless enough. But it is no friend to the bustacious.

Amazingly it can actually be made worse - by the use of one colour. There is nothing to draw your eye away. This is probably the most common mistake made by ladies with big boobs.

Remember,

"In space, no one can hear you scream" (Alien)

To be fair to the lady on the right, she actually initially wore a jacket and the V neck effect with that created a completely different and stylish look. But then she took it off..... It is a good example of the dangers for the unwary.

Note also the lady on the right has good three quarter length sleeves and a belt accentuating the waistline. All good styling features but you cannot get around that unbroken area of material across the chest accentuated by the crewneck.

To cheer yourself up, look at the many flattering necklines. After all this depressing discussion it is nice to know there is a lot to cheer about.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

Yes a crewneck looks good on a modest bust. Unfortunately it looks very different on a large bust

Crew necks or high round necks can look good on some body shapes........just probably not you, dear reader!

Lovely - just not on a large chest

A lovely picture of a pretty young woman wearing a high neckline. Just think how your own chest might look in it though.

To be fair to Keira K she knows how to dress her body shape and that should be evidence enough for any top heavy woman

If a high neckline suits the pretty but almost painfully thin Miss Keira Knightley, what are the chances it will suit a woman with generous curves?
