Dress Necklines
For Large Breasts

Dress necklines for large boobs examines the trickier and less common styles. You will recognise them all. All can be worn, but most have the same big problem, you have to wear a strapless bra.

The big advantage is that they do provide sensuality in a classy way by revealing your shoulders and neck and also they tend to be a tad more individualistic, something most of us are looking for in a dress neckline particularly for special occasions.

Of course the brave, younger or surgically enhanced might opt for the more daring alternative of no bra at all, but that is not an option for most naturally big busted women.

The styles, in no particular order are:

  1. Off the shoulder
  2. Asymmetrical necklines
  3. Halternecks
  4. Cross-over
  5. Diamond neckline

1. Off The Shoulder

OK it may not work so well today but it shows it has been around a while
Opera singers favour the off the shoulder, sexy but classy look

Similar to the strapless dress but you gain a little more support from the straps, albeit on the upper arms. Again both classic and very sensual and a means of utilising a Queen Anne or Sweet-heart neckline which is usually flattering for a lady with large boobs.

The straps on these garments are often wide and help to conceal upper arms if that is an issue. Or they can make the shoulders seem wider by adding a decorative feature, as shown in the picture on the left. The lady on the right is a famous Romanian opera singer and that is an environment that encourages classy frocks.

Obviously if you are concerned about big shoulders then these are dress necklines you wish to avoid. Note how your attention is drawn to the shoulder-blades.

2. Asymmetrical Necklines

Off the shoulder and asymmetrical
Asymmetric will often be fairly unique

Asymmetrical necklines cover a lot of unusual styles. They can make a frock look odd or very elegant it really is a case of taking each one on an individual basis. They certainly are an option for you, if being different is a priority.

I have actually covered these on 3 dedicated pages:

Actually asymmetrical necklines outfits may look interesting but in terms of fit, the straps are secondary to the region around the bust. It is that area which will dictate if the dress is going to work or not for you.

The material is also important, for example, the shiny look is rarely good for a lady with ample boobs as it draws attention. The feather look is an example of how to draw the eye away from the chest.

Remember also that you can use a multi-way bra, with one strap, under this. Logically one strap is better than none but personally I could never get on with them as they make me feel lop-sided.

3. Halternecks

Halternecks can be found on many tops

Marilyn Monroe is probably the most famous person to wear halternecks. Here she is wearing her iconic dress prior to standing over the hot air duct for that famous lifted skirts image.

The cups of her top form part of the straps themselves. I have personally tried this style of top a number of times and felt that it over-emphasised my boobs and looked like two hammocks.

Of course it all depends on your size, shape and personal preference. Plus if you look like Marilyn, it probably helps.

To provide a contrast (and clearly not a dress neckline) but the young lady on the right has a casual top with a completely different halternecks style.

4. Cross-over

A feature neckline can work really well
Marilyn crosses over

The cross-over is often a variation on the halter-neck above. For a woman with large boobs the straps can often be merely decorative. It is still the way the garment fits across your chest and the suitability of the dress neckline, that is actually what matters.

Cross-over straps are certainly not that common so it does provide you an opportunity to look very different in a stylish way. Hence cross-overs are potentially a good choice for ladies with large breasts.

5. Diamond Neckline

The diamond neckline is another good style for busty women. Plenty of (modest) flesh on show, which hints at naughty stuff but does not actually necessarily show it.

I have simply never understood why the diamond neckline is not more popular with designers and clothing retailers but look at the upside, you get to look different to other women.

Dress Necklines - The Rear View

Always check out what you look like from behind
A backless dress can be sensual but ensure you are not revealing blemishes

One final thing to remember is that your upper back is often on display with many of these styles. That can be a concern for some women. So do not blithely choose a dress or top that you love from the front. Make sure you know exactly what you look like from behind too.

For those of you who prefer to shop alone, this may be one of the few occasions you should enlist the help of a friend. There is no point asking the sales assistant, she is not going to be honest!

A good tip is to get someone (the sales assistant could be trusted with this) to take a photo or two of your rear view in the garment. You can then judge for yourself, rather than try and crane your neck around to get sight in a mirror.

Because we are ladies with large boobs, we obviously concentrate on the chesticles but it is the overall look that matters and that includes the rear view. We tend to forget that a neck has a rear too and that it is still part of the dress neckline.

Old Dictum of Fashion:

Another excellent rule is if it is a bare back, ensure it is high at the front. As high necklines are generally not a good look for the busty sisterhood. I would generally advise to avoid bare back dresses. Plus of course you cannot wear a bra.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

I have been overwhelmed by the interest and kind words of so many readers on this issue that I decided to write a Quick Guide, Kindle book on the subject (see above).

This has allowed me to write a concise guide on the most flattering neckline styles and expand a little on others.

I will try and create it in different formats but currently it is in kindle ebooks format only.

Celebrity Spotting

A form of halterneck / strapless look

Here Jane Russell liked halternecks, here sporting one with atypical straps but a more classic neckline. I think that looks incredibly classy.

Kim Kardashian in a one shoulder number.

Greek Newscaster Eleni Tsaga is certainly going to never be caught wearing the same outfit as anyone else in this off the shoulder dress.
