So what dictates the best dresses for big busts? One word - neckline. In a sense it is a microcosm of the whole question of clothes buying. With all clothes buying there are a lot of issues to take into consideration but the key is your body shape. The key for tops for big boobs is the neckline.

Further down the page there is a small summary on each of the above styles.

First the Proof

A high neckline will present a huge unbroken block of colour and huge is not a word we want to be associated with
The ever flattering V neck look can be used to make a high neckline work

Look at the above two photos of a lovely lady called Svetlana Medvedeva, (who just happens to be married to the Prime Minister of Russia). A perfect example of the different effect created by different necklines for big breasts.

As you can tell from the picture on the left, Svetlana has been blessed with a large chest. The photo on the left is one of the few photos I could find where she wore a poor neckline style (albeit a nice outfit).

The photo on the right shows that same bust in a far more flattering neckline and you will see how that big bust seems to have dissolved.

I can assure you both outfits are very expensive so it is a useful comparison for the issue of best dresses for big boobs.

If you also note the dress on the left is a dark colour, whereas the one on the right is a light blue. We all know that darker colours have a slimming effect so many big busted women wear dark colours on top. So you can see I am not using any tricks to prove my point on flattering necklines.

Maxi dresses are the most wonderful style for almost every woman. They are so fabulously versatile. They can be worn to formal functions or just as well at casual events.

The maxi dress comes in many different styles, necklines and fabrics. It has become a much loved staple of almost every woman's wardrobe.

I also look at floral garden party dresses and summer frocks.

A line dresses suit many types of body shape. So popular in the 1950's it is making a deserved comeback.

The skirt will skim over your hips and balance out your bust.

Scoop Necklines

Scoop necks can be daring or modest, depending on your age and attitude

There is more good news; another good choice for ladies with a big bust is the scoop neck dress.

It can be revealing or modest but certainly one of our most flattering necklines.

Strapless Dress

The strapless dress can really compliment a busty figure

The strapless dress is one of the best dresses for big busts but you need to know the dangers.

It is actually a bit of a contradiction because although there is a lot of bare flesh on view, the strapless dress for big boobs is still usually a modest look.

Asymmetrical Dresses For Big Breasts

The ever classy looking Mrs Michael Douglas

A statement neckline style and very individualistic. Like a strapless dress, the one shoulder dress is sensual rather than sexy and has the advantage of being modest.

There is also the sister one sleeve dress

Finally, other asymmetrical dresses have other forms of offset neckline and also asymmetrical hemlines. This page explores the variety with lots of examples.

High Low Hemlines

High low dresses

Sometimes called zig zag or hanky dresses. The high low hemline on a frock has become very fasionable in the last few years.

Because it is such an eye catching feature it is particularly useful distraction and high low dresses for big busts are something you should certainly at least consider.

The Keyhole Neckline

The keyhole look varies enormously and is certainly worth considering if you like to be different

The keyhole dress is undoubtedly an adaptable and an uncommon style.

It can look good, or very bad. If you like unusual styles or simply like to ensure you are wearing something different then this maybe a good option. However, for busty women it is often a difficult look to achieve.

Tunics and Smock Frocks

Smock dresses

These are fascinating styles because tunic dresses and their sister, smock dresses were once associated with frumpy, mumsy maternity garments.

It has since evolved and been adopted by the younger generation, become chic and taken on an air of nonchalant cool.

I also explore it's closely related cousins, tunic dresses.

We provide tips on ways to wear it and what to avoid.

The Midi

Midi dresses

Midi dresses remain perpetually popular because they suit women of almost all ages.

A hem line that ends around the calf is very modest and yet flashes a little flesh to balance out the top half.

I look at a variety of styles of midi dresses including; bodycon, floral and with and without sleeves.

As the cartoon below, 'The fashions of the day' from 1807 shows, the issue of the appropriateness of necklines is no new phenomena. Nowadays there are many types of neckline; although names vary and there is duplication. I reckon there are at least twenty five well known styles.

I have not dealt with every one, merely the most commonly found variations and the more importantly, the most inappropriate and most flattering necklines on dresses for big boobs.

This old cartoon mocks the fashions of the day;

Personal Preference

Another reason why there is no simple answer to the question of best dresses for big busts is that a lot of the suitability will boil down to personal preference.

Are you happy showing some cleavage, a little, or none at all? For many of us that actually depends on the occasion, who we are with and what kind of impression we are trying to make. Serious, sensible, demure, sexy, fun, relaxed etc.

Only you know the answer to that but I want to at least provide you options and explanations of the why's and wherefores. The great thing is there is variety of dresses for big busts, you just have to understand the advantage and disadvantage of each.

To look at other clothing related issues that matter for ladies who are generously endowed, nip back over to the home page, at what to wear for big busts.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

A review of the best dresses for big busts

I have just finished a page on 1950s dresses. Why? Because they suit many types of big busted lady. Essentially because the flared skirt balances out those boobs.

Flattering Necklines for Big Busted Women

A different neckline on the same garment can make the world of difference between your bust appearing massive or modest. Necklines matter!

Why? because it is a lot easier to find dresses, skirts or pants / trousers that fit your bottom half. Also, ladies with big boobs are not simply one body shape only and hence there is no one obvious dress style that we can say is the best.

This is a complicated subject with anomalies and contradictions so it needs to be properly understood.

Get it right and you sizzle, get it wrong and you will draw a lot of unwanted attention.

Why are Flattering Necklines For
Big Busted Women so Important?

The neckline is important because it frames the face, neck and to a lesser extent the shoulders but also the bust. By adjusting the angles and the width, you can emphasise or de-emphasise features.

It is thought a round face is better served by straight and angular lines which soften it. In contrast an angular face is softened by a neckline with curves.

You can choose a good, well fitting dress that ticks all the right boxes and then, in one fell swoop, ruin the look by simply picking the wrong neck style. In contrast by understanding the concept you can transform outfits with flattering necklines.

It is very much about tricking the minds eye. A massive bust does not simply disappear but it can be made to look a lot less obvious and this is a very important consideration for many women when trying to fathom out the best dresses for big busts.

Necklines Really Matter
On Big Busts

There are plenty of varieties of neckline, providing a lot of different looks for a lady with large breasts.

Some good, some bad.

Wide round necks can be as high or low as you dare

Do not think that any of these styles are new? Fashionistas have been aware of the advantages of flattering necklines for big busted women for years.

Those old fashionistas of old knew all about the power of necklines

There are also lots of less common styles which may, or may not work for you. Much of it is about your body shape.

Flattering Necklines For Big Busts

I have been overwhelmed by the interest and kind words of so many readers on this issue that I decided to write a Quick Guide, Kindle book on the subject (see above).

This has allowed me to write a concise guide on the most flattering neckline styles and expand a little on others.

I will try and create it in different formats but currently it is in kindle ebooks format only.
