Female Body Types

Female Body Types: Understanding your body shape is an incredibly important element of knowing how to dress well. Womens figures do vary enormously but to make analysis simpler we use generalisations and list 4-5 main body shapes:

  • the hourglass shape
  • the inverted triangle body shape
  • the athletic / straight / rectangular body shape
  • apple shaped
  • the pear shape
  • women with wide or broad shoulders

...and no, the illustrations above are not an exhaustive list, I just liked the simplicity of the picture.

Just below the next paragraph is a gallery of female body shapes so you can jump to that specific body shape if you prefer.

If you know your figure already, dive right in; but if you are still thinking 'what body type am I?'  and need an explanation, click this link.

Please note I have only concentrated on the typical body shapes of big busted women.

Oh, and don't shoot the piano player. I think some of these terms for womens figures are daft and almost insulting but they are common and well understood so I have retained them.

An Hourglass Figure

Female body types 1

Many consider the hourglass figure the 'perfect' body shape but that is like saying having big breasts is wonderful.

Yes many think that but as we know there are advantages and disadvantages to all female body types. It can be far more difficult than most people imagine to find clothes that suit your curves.

Read on to see more on the hourglass body shape.

The Pear Shape

Th pear shape is the most typical silhouette for Anglo-European and Afro-Caribbean women and such a big subject. I have split it into two.

  1. What dress to wear if you are a pear shape body.
  2. Tops, jackets, skirts and trousers (pants) for the pear shaped body.

The Apple

Apple Shaped Body

The apple is a typical look amongst big breasted women and without doubt the most difficult shape to dress well. The key issue is the stomach.

I have divided this subject into two parts to do it justice.

(1) I discuss elongating the apple shaped body

(2) I also review the idea of creating or emphasizing those curves on an apple body shape.

The Inverted Triangle Body Shape

The inverted triangle body shape, sometimes called the lollipop. Long legs, slender figure and big boobs, you have the figure many women envy and most men lust over.

But as you will know only too well, being able to dress in a modest manner for day to day wear is difficult......the lollipop / inverted triangle body shape.

The Rectangle

Rectangular Body Shape

The rectangle shape figure is a real challenge. You can look fine in almost everything but looking really good is more difficult.

There are a number of subtle 'tricks' you can use to change the look of your silhouette to provide more curves.

Broad Shoulders

Broad shoulders are not something necessarily associated with ladies with big boobs but it is a subject which some ladies get very sensitive about them.

The trick, like all other discussion on female body types, is to move the eye away from 'negative' features. At the same time creating balance.

Broad shoulders Women

I have actually divided this subject into three.

  1. clothes to avoid if you have broad shoulders
  2. flattering clothes for women with wide shoulders.
  3. more good choices for broad shoulders women
  4. and then provided a bonus page of broad shouldered celebrities

I know some of these body shape 'labels' are a bit daft, if not insulting but they are well known and so I have stuck with them.

Many of us actually are a mix of one or two female body types and we can morph from one shape to another as we put on, or take off, weight as well as as we grow older. So please do not take too much heed. These are merely convenient labels to help you address issues you may be concerned about.

Enough already? Pop back to the Home page at clothes for big breasts to read more on other fashion and style ideas. Or, look at the navigation bar in the left column.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

Womens' Figures

Understanding women's figures is an absolutely key element of style. Wearing what you like may make you feel good but wearing what suits you is what will gain you the approving looks and acknowledgement that you know how to dress.

There are excellent clothes for all female body types and what suits one, may not suit another. You need to understand this to know how to emphasize your best features and de-emphasize others.

Style must be adapted to the woman and not vice versa. The same can be said of clothes.” Sophia Loren

Understanding Women's Figures

One of the female body shapes you are highly unlikely to be is mega thin and so, like me, your chances of being a super model are low.

However we must look at the positives at all times and be grateful. Just think, you will never have to wear strange, sometimes bizarre new fangled outfits.

Plus would you really want every set of eyes in the room, not just glancing but actively encouraged to stare, with a critical eye, at your body.

Please remember these 'labels' are only generalisations. Many of us have characteristics of more than one female body type and / or variations and your shape will probably also morph over time.

It is however important to dress to suit your shape, so you can emphasize or de-emphasize certain features.
