Going Braless - It's Your Choice

Going braless is generally not considered a good move for the generously endowed. Of course it is your body and you can do what you want to it. Wear or not wear what you want. But for most busty women a bra is an integral part of their lives and they would not want to go without.

A slightly odd topic within the section on what not to wear for big busts because in this case I am recommending that you do actually wear them.

The main reasons for not going braless which I discuss below are: the effect of gravity, losing your overall shape, the particularly adverse effect on apple and pear shaped women, the unpleasant comments and the fact that it will possibly make you look older.

However, for balance, at the bottom of the page I discuss the pro- braless viewpoint, which certainly has some validity - it is all about choice and possibly the occasion.

Do whatever suits you.

Compare the position of the bust under a sweater on a well fitting bra and no bra. Both ladies are seriously busty. But one is high, one low slung. That is the effect of not wearing a brassiere.

Like an Over-Stretched Elastic Band, Breast Tissue Cannot Recover

Gravity, it is a real downer. Have you heard the phrase, the bigger they are, the harder they fall? Forget Galileo, it is simple logic that large boobage weighs more and has a deeper affinity for gravity than a more modest bust. Therefore going braless means you are at the mercy of gravity.

The effect of gravity on breasts

Why does this matter? Well for one thing the look. We want our bust to look perky. When you first developed breasts as a teenager they would have been very firm. In fact for a few halcyon years you could have probably not worn a bra and they would have jutted out proudly.

Unfortunately there is very little muscle in the breast and very quickly they would have sagged albeit not by much initially. Do you remember the old pencil under the boob test?

The fact is the increasing weight which goes with the increasing size, plus gravity, plus the lack of elasticity in the muscles surrounding and in the breast itself, can only mean one thing. That perky teenage breast will become a distant memory.

An unfortunate effect is also pain. Even female runners with small breasts complain about the pain associated with bouncing boobs. Perhaps strangely the level of pain does not increase with cup size as modest cupped ladies can suffer more. It really depends from woman to woman.

A stretched elastic band

But the damage which can be done to the delicate breast muscles and ligaments with all that extra weight bouncing around is exaggerated on larger busts. Like a rubber band that has been over-stretched, once the damage is done, the tissue will never regain it's original elasticity.

Going Braless Can Mean You
Look Older

As women we want to present our best image. Perky boobs are associated with being youthful. Saggy breasts suggest older. It is like grey hair, you can let it grey naturally or use an innocent cheat and colour it. The same applies to your bust. You can sag gracefully or simply wear a bra to hold yourself in a youthful position.

Bra Free Zone

All this is obvious I know. But shape matters. A good supportive bra will position your bust in the optimum perky position.

Some big busted women are blessed with almost amazing perkiness but nevertheless, the position of your boobs will be undoubtedly higher with the benefit of big bras.

Will a bra actually make your boobs perkier. No. Will it create a perkier effect? Yes. Unless you are young, have been surgically enhanced or blessed with very fortunate genetics, it is unlikely that going braless will promote a perkier, youthful look.

For Pear Shape and Apple Shape Women
Going Bra-less Seriously Affects Shape

Why so? Well because Pear shaped women want to balance out their bottom half with a prominent top half. Likewise an Apple shape woman wants to highlight both her hips and bust to create a more curvy shape.

By wearing a supportive brassiere it not only presents a youthful perky look but it literally pulls your bust up off your chest. It elongates your torso and stops the whole thing becoming one big lumpy blob. For Apples and Pears in particular this definition of your stomach and torso is very important.

The Silicon Effect

Silicon boobs

One problem that is rarely discussed is the silicon effect. The advent of porn stars and 'normal' women who have had some seriously large silicon implants which they are proud to show has meant there is a whole generation of men that think that big breasts are naturally perky.

This may occasionally be the case but for the most part it is simply not where nature is at for ladies who are generously endowed. I am not going to expand on this issue as it is fairly self explanatory but suffice to say a well fitting bra will position your boobs higher on your chest and give you a 'perkier' look.

Going braless for some seriously (naturally) busty women can mean their boobs are down on their stomachs which is not a look that most aspire to.

Nipples

Prominent nipples
Unwanted Nipple show

It is a simple fact that you are more likely to have nipple 'show' when going braless because there is one less garment to camouflage them and possibly because you will be less warm and the cold has an effect on nipples.

Erect nipples are eye catching and will draw attention to your boobs and this site is primarily about avoiding unnecessary attention.

How you may feel about this varies. Some do not care, some hate the thought of nipples jutting out but most seem to prefer to avoid the look. We also all vary and it can have a more eye catching result with some women, more than others. You will know better than anyone how you look.

Of course there are going to be occasions when a dress or top simply will not permit a bra so you may have no choice but going bra-less but it is a matter of being aware.

Is It Worse For A Busty Woman
Going Bra-Less?

Going bra-less

You could argue it is no different for any woman going bra-less. Certainly ladies with modest boobs can get serious pain when going bra free but the fact is breasts draw attention and bigger boobs draw even more attention. They will not just jiggle, they will swing.

Men will not complain, they find large breasts fascinating but equally so do some women. If you think you gets occasional looks of disapproval when wearing a bra from some women - just for the temerity of being blessed with an ample bust. The disapproval rating will leap to downright indignation if you go braless.

Big breasts in top with no bra

It is also when the comments will move from catty and snide to downright unpleasant; being compared to a cow's udders being a typical  example of this, either behind your back or to your face.

Is it fair? No but very tall and very short women similarly get unwanted comments so we are not alone; so you simply need to deal with it. Of course the easiest way is to wear a brassiere.

Of course is you want to go bra free in the privacy and comfort of your own home, that is entirely different. Many big boobed women look forward to the moment when they can get home and 'shed the armour'. It is all down to personal preference.

"Going Braless Is Best"

Now whilst it is not an idea I can personally subscribe to, there are plenty of very sensible women who feel strongly that it is better to go without. The word freedom is commonly associated with any comments by such ladies.

"Bras are a ludicrous invention; but if you make bralessness a rule, you're just subjecting yourself to yet another repression".

Germaine Greer

There is an interesting site discussing the bra free choice, click the link.

More recently a French study by a Professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, at the University Franche Compe in Besancon, concluded it may be better to go 'au naturel'. This was no random tabloid newspaper article with spurious facts and dubious assertions. This was a scientific study over fifteen years.

Whatever tickles your fancy!

The ladies involved went without the traditional support for various time periods and he measured them all on a regular basis. It seems most found it painful for up to three months but then the pain went and they found it comfortable thereafter.

Professor Rouillon found breasts kept their natural shape and apparently sagged seven millimetres (about quarter of an inch) less than the brassiere wearers' breasts after a year. More specifically the nipple remained higher.

Being a scientist, he was open in admitting his sample size was small and concentrated only on younger women and prudent to suggest women not ditch their brassieres quite yet.

It is easy to be skeptical and clearly there are many issues that require expanding upon, not least that the study was conducted on younger women whose breasts will have more elasticity and that there was no mention of breast sizes. However, any serious study is to be welcomed, if only if it prompts others to conduct more research.

  • The observant amongst you will have noted I titled a page going braless but then recommend exactly the opposite. Equally stating you should wear something within a section titled, what not to wear. Let's be generous and call it irony.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

Going Braless (what not to wear)

Ever wanted to ditch those uncomfortable bras? Who hasn't but there are certain issues to consider....

Not wearing a bra

A Bra Free Zone

More modestly endowed ladies may have the option but very few bounteously endowed ladies would ever go without the support of a bra

Yes you want people to admire your free spirit, your lack of convention, your wild side but what if they are merely thinking - droopy?

People think I'm trying to make a fashion statement because I never wear a bra. It's really that I'm a tomboy at heart.

No Bra

No Bra - Loud and Proud

It is your choice. If you want you can be loud and proud.

Bras Are Like Men!

Bras are a bit like men, however annoying, frustrating, uncomfortable and sometimes painful they can be; most of us want them around for company and support.

We all have difficulty finding a good one but once we do, we get very attached.

However old and worn out they get, we treasure them and treat them well to get a few more years service out of them.

Do what is right for you

I will not criticise any woman for going bra-less. It is your inalienable right to do what makes you feel good.

Many non wearers will vouch for the fact that they do not appear to have become any more 'saggy' than when they wore one previously

Note there is no upward tilt it's downhill al the way - so to speak

A Cheap Alternative

$12.99 Cotton Bra

If you do not hate bras as such, just the constriction of the under-wiring, tight fastenings and stiffness. You could consider a 'comfort bra'.

They are surprisingly cheap and concentrate on comfort. Obviously they only provide light or medium support but that may be a perfect 'half-way house' compromise for you.

What I like to do is to read the comments from previous buyers. They tend to mention all sorts of aspects you may not immediately think of but are immensely helpful.
