Nursing Bras For Big Breasts

Nursing bras for big breasts are not just important, they are actually essential if you want to be as comfortable as possible and not damage your breast tissue.

Mercifully, the advances in material technology such as lycra (spandex) and the advent of the internet which allowed specialist retailers to become more easily found and grow, has meant a huge boost to the range of breast feeding bras for big boobs.

Nursing Bras Are They Necessary?

Well like all issues to do with underwear it is really up to you. There is plenty of comment out there that says there is no need.

"You can wear an old loose fitting bra", "wear a sports bra it is supportive"etc. But I put this to you:

  • some women do not put on much extra boobage, others do, those ladies who get by with alternatives may not share the pain or extra breast weight you have
  • some ladies are starting with a lot already and that extra weight might mean more strain on your shoulders and back and / or potential stretch marks
  • many nursing mothers use pads to mop up leakage, a nursing bra makes that easier
  • proper breastfeeding bras usually have wide straps because you will appreciate the support
  • dare I even mention nursing twins?

Two very popular and cheap nursing bras on Amazon are the crossover cotton Lamaze to the left and on the right, the iloveSIA. These will probably not have the durability and substance of the specialist brands but boy are they reasonably priced.

The number of buyers of the Lamaze nursing bra on Amazon is actually quite staggering. Again checking out the comments from other women is always educational.

  • oftentimes you will only have one arm / hand available as you have something valuable and increasingly heavy in the other. Cup flaps are designed to be easy to 'unbuckle / buckle up' with one hand
  • trying to lift an underwired or tight sports bra over a swollen or sensitive breast may well be very difficult and painful and you may be surprised how often you do it
  • your breasts can change shape (and weight) during the day as you produce and discharge milk, a 'normal' bra or tank top cannot provide the same level of support as the tailor made expansive material in a specialist breast feeding bra
  • a breast feeding bra will support and hold your breast in place whilst you are feeding
  • it may depend on how long you breast feed for, some may last a few weeks, others for substantially longer

Of course, it is entirely up to you, everyone is different but many women really value their nursing bras.

Best Nursing bras for Big Boobs

Nursing Bras for big breastsBravado Essential Embrace
Nursing Bras for bigger boobsBravado Original Double Plus

Bravado are an American firm originally started by two pregnant friends. Thankfully they ignore all the usual nonsense about a size D being a big bust and actually cater for 'real' big breasts. They proudly state they go up to (US) L /M without an underwire so that has to be good news.

Above left is the Essential Embrace, available in black with purple trim, chai almond (shown) and white orchid. In US sizes 32-44 up to M, although it varies for larger back sizes. There is also a (53 second) youtube video clip Bravado Essential Embrace which whilst a little cheesy, does show two proper busty moms demonstrating the product which is useful.

The 'Original' bra comes in 3 styles: normal (small), plus (C - E Cups) and double plus (E-G cups). I have obviously shown the 'double plus' version.

All three come in 4 colour schemes: black, white, beige (butterscotch) and leopard. It is 92% cotton, 8% spandex, has a racer back and is wire free.

Maternity bras for big boobsAnita U/Wire
Maternity bras for big boobsAnita Soft Cup

Anita is another specialist firm that produces a big range of wired and underwired and some of the breast feeding bras. Above is an underwired microfibre version. 5068. Anita are not too imaginative when it comes to naming their products and so it is important to watch out for the code numbers. It is available in UK sizes 32-44 C-I. In black, white, beige and raspberry.

On the right is a wireless, softcup, nursing bra code 5051. It is white only and (UK) sizes 32-48 D-J. As you can imagine there are plenty of other alternatives from Anita so have a search about.

Nursing Bras for Big Busts

Royce Ava Nursing Bras for big boobsAva by Royce
Royce Jasmine Nursing Bras for big bustsJasmine by Royce

Royce is a British firm that spotted a gap in the market for wirefree nursing bras some 25 years ago and has specialised in them ever since. The Ava runs from (UK) 32-38 FF-K cups and of course is wirefree.

The Jasmine my look it, but again it is not wired. With sizes running (UK) 32-40 F - L cup. Yes that is an L cup! Royce is a firm that actually understands even ladies with big boobs get bigger when pre and post natal.

Check out the US / UK size comparison chart on the right if you are confused.

Royce Women's Blossom Wire-Free Nursing BraRoyce Blossom
Charlotte Nursing Bra by RoyceRoyce Charlotte

There is simply not enough room to show the entire range of Royce nursing bras for big breasts, so I have picked some of their best sellers.

Here is the funky Blossom in an Animal Print. This model also comes in black with white polka dots, coral with pink straps. Who said maternity bras have to be dull and utilitarian? The sizes are 32-40 C-H cup.

To the right is the best selling Charlotte, available in white, black or beige. Sizes are (UK) 28E-J, 30E-K, 32-40F-K.

Large Cup Nursing Bras

Whilst I like to show examples of the often cheap products found on the likes of Amazon, I feel duty bound to also highlight what the brands of specialist large cup bras offer. These are the firms that specifically cater for ladies with bounteous charms, so you know you are in good hands (so to speak).

Goddess Keira Nursing BraKeira by Goddess
Bravado Body Silk Seamless Nursing BraBravado Seamless

Goddess lingerie is a US brand that caters for big curvy women. The Keira is a very popular model in their range and there are soft cup, long line, banded as well as this nursing bra in the range. US sizes start at 36-42DD - N, 44DD-44J and 46DD-I.

Goddess used to also do a Comfort Zone Nursing bra but I think that it has now been discontinued.

The Bravado seamless nursing bra is not something I know about but it does have a huge number of positive reviews on Amazon, so may well be worth checking out. It comes in small, medium, large and extra large, that said I am not sure that means it will fit much higher than a US DDD. It comes with privacy /leak pads that you can keep or toss.

Freya Dotty Maternity Nursing BraFreya Dotty
Rosie Nursing Bra by FreyaFreya Rosie

The obvious advantage with large bra specialists, other than their international repuation for quality, is that you will find something that fits genuinely big boobs. We have all had the frustration of finding something you want, only to be annoyed when that firm does not cater for 'actual' big busts, not what the marketing people consider big.

Above left is the Freya Dotty nursing bra for big boobs. With some variations, it generally runs from a (UK) 30-40 D cup to an HH cup. To the right the Rosie, also from Freya. It is sized (UK) 30-38 E-HH and 40E - GG.

Sophie Nursing Bra by PanacheSophie by Panache
Elomi Smoothing Underwire Moulded Nursing BraElomi Beatrice

Kicking off with the Sophie, you know you are in genuine large cup bras territory when you see that this starts at a (UK) DD cup and goes up to a J cup; plus it starts at a 28 back size! which will please many of the busty sisterhood.

The smooth moulded cups in the Elomi offering will appeal to many. In black or beige, it runs (UK) 34DD-JJ, 42DD-HH and 44DD-GG.

Remember these are nursing bras not maternity bras - there is a difference, see the right hand column.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

The above seamless model is a best seller on Amazon with an astounding number of generally positive comments. I have shown the orchid pink version to add a little colour to the page but it does come in 7 other colours.

Maternity Or Nursing Bras?

The real question is what is the difference between a maternity and nursing bra?

The two terms are often confused but there is a difference.

A maternity bra is designed for when you are pregnant, or pre-natal. It is designed to expand and support that extra weight.

A nursing bra is primarily designed for helping you feed your baby, so it is post-natal.

The most obvious feature is the cups being hinged so that they can flap down to expose your breast for ease of feeding, or nursing.

So if you see the model in the photo holding the flap - now you know why!

My Bust Shape Looks Different

Remember most maternity and breat feeding bras are wireless and so do not push up so much. Also hey tend to have greater coverage and this can effect your 'profile'.

Nipple Alert!

Please be aware that the cups on some bras can be thin material and not stop nipple show. Especially if the nipples are big or very dark.

Don't worry. This is not unusual. Normal takes many forms.

TOP TIP

Many experts suggest that you hold off buying your nursing bra for 2-3 weeks, if you can manage it. Why? Because it will let your breasts settle into their new milk laden size and weight.

I recognise this is difficult but it might explain why you get some of the negative comments about fit when you read negative comments from buyers on some sites.

An Electric Pumping Bustier

Simple Wishes Hands-Free Breastpump Bra
Amazon

it may look odd but....

The Simple Wishes Hands Free Pumping Bustier Bra provides convenience to mothers while they are pumping breast milk, leaving them free to do other tasks. This comfortable and versatile bra features an adjustable band for a custom fit throughout your entire nursing period. The XS/S/M size fits a wide range of bra sizes from 30AA to 34J.

Whilst not actually a breast feeding bra, I list this simply because of the sheer volume of positive comments on Amazon. I have no personal experience of it but surely that many women cannot be wrong.

Royce Florence

There is a good review of the Royce Florence nursing bra at Beckys Boudoir.com. As you can see it is a colourful option which is unusual for nursing bras for big boobs.

Nothing helps a site like this more than 'normal' people (not clever marketeers) simply sharing a page or two.
