One Sleeve Dress for Big Busts

Does a one sleeve dress for big busts work? It is commonly described as chic, fashionable and feminine but in all honesty the fashionistas might say that about almost any style. However you only have to look at this to see it is very different.

Closely related to the one shoulder dress, these asymmetrical dresses will certainly make you stand out and are primarily for ladies who are not afraid to be bold. Not the most obvious of dresses for big busts but that unusual design will draw the eye away from that bosom.

Of course it is versatile in that it can be used with all sorts of dress style. It can be short, long, formal, informal, party, cocktail, prom, evening or almost any other occasion you fancy.

The obvious feature that makes these garments different is the fact that they are asymmetrical dresses. Generally speaking as humans we like symmetry. It is more pleasing on the eye whereas asymmetry jars.

If you like to be different, stand out from the crowd or simply hate the thought of wearing the same outfit as another woman in any given situation, then this could be well worth considering.

Below I am going to provide a variety of photos of various different dresses so you can see exactly what sort of thing is available.

What Is a One Sleeve Dress?

This may be an obvious answer but a one sleeve dress only has one as opposed to the standard two sleeves. With the obvious need in the world of fashion to create something different all the time it is perhaps surprising that this variation is adopted so infrequently.

The Sleeve Style Has a Massive Impact

Now I am not necessarily recommending these dresses, I am simply trying to illustrate the variety of styles that there are out there.

Angel sleeve
Batwing sleeve

As can be seen from these two pictures the type of sleeve can vary enormously. The dress on the left certainly goes for the dramatic by having an angel sleeve.

The other LBD has a batwing. I would always caution against too much width across the chest if you are seriously busty but if that is not an issue it is certainly striking.

Short Party / Club Wear

It is possibly not surprising that someone that designs dress with only one sleeve, which is unusual in itself, will create a slightly cutting edge design as these examples prove.

Kimono sleeve
One sleeve party dress

These two styles are interesting too. Both have similar lengths and are cut off the same shoulder but the sleeves are completely different.

The rhinestone effect adds a little party glamour to this red kimono sleeve number, whereas the lace effect is slightly more traditional.

One note of caution I will add is that it is very difficult to find a one sleeve dress for big busts in anything other than short mini skirt lengths. Also the big retailers rarely produce anything in this style so if you like this look and see a garment in one of your favourite shops, snap it up.

The garment (above left) is another variation on the theme. This is described as a ruffled sleeve with an asymmetrical hem line. Finally I had to show the photo on the right because it reminds me of the sixties, psychedelic, flowerpower, Woodstock era. Or what Austin Powers may classify as "groovy".

Whether you like them or not, they are certainly visually striking and modest dresses, although you may not personally like the length.

Longer Evening One Sleeve Dresses

There are many one shoulder evening gowns but far fewer offerings with one sleeve too.

If you would like to see more detail on this variation. See one shoulder dress. Where I explore various length styles.

How Does This Differ From a
One Shoulder Dress?

A one shoulder dress can be presented in a variety of ways. This often means a lot of different neckline and strap variations; the above two dresses modelled by Miss Hendricks and Miss Kardashian.

A one sleeve dress similarly has a variety of strap formats but crucially it also involves a sleeve too. To see more discussion and examples of the one shoulder dress, click the link.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that you can buy other tops with just the one sleeve which can look similarly striking.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

Katy Perry

It is perhaps no surprise to see Katy Perry wear this style as she is never afraid to try something new and is more than happy to be both unusual and at the cutting edge.

If you want to see more of her various outfits, see Katy Perry style.

Petra Nemcova

Petra Nemcova

Perhaps not so instantly recognizable but this is the rather fabulous, multi-lingual, supermodel Petra Nemcova (she speaks Czech, Slovak, English, Italian, French and Polish - so forget any dumb model jokes).

As an aside, as Petra demonstrates, this is a good look for women who worry about broad shoulders.
