Satin Dresses and Silk Dresses Require Caution

So satin dresses for big boobs? A simple enough question. In fact I will also add in their pretty sister, silk dresses too. Both are classy and feel great but for a buxom lady they require caution. Indeed any sparkly dresses or tops carry the same warning tag for the busty sisterhood - 'What not to Wear for Big Busts.

Now that is not to strictly say you should not wear them, quite the opposite; you simply need to be aware. Aware that they catch the light and instantly draw the eye.

Satin tops catch the eye
Silk dresses also catch the light

As you can see, light catches the eye on silk dresses and immediately draws the eye. Yes I know the Indian actress Rakhi Sawant is showing a lot of cleavage but ignore that and look at the effect of the shiny material.

Similarly with satin dresses. As ever Sofia Vergara looks gorgeous and is a role model for big busted women. Now this picture raises an important issue. If the whole outfit is the same shiny material the eye is not drawn to the chest. So logically a dress will have that much more material for the eye to wander over. A smaller target like a top will catch the eye more readily.

Below I demonstrate the same principle for sparkly dresses as satin dresses. It is not such a homing beacon for your bust if the material is the same throughout.

Shar Jackson twinkles
Dolly Does Dazzle

Shar Jackson certainly sparkles but your eye is not drawn anywhere in particular on her top. Even the famous bust of Miss Dolly Parton does not immediately draw your eye in one of her rhinestone and satin dresses. Why? because the length of these outfits mean the eye roves all over them.

Silk Tops (should) Carry
a Warning Message

"All that glistens, is not gold".

That boy Shakespeare knew a thing or two about fashion, oh and he wrote some good plays too!

The best way to explain this is by showing some examples.

Rosario Dawson shimmers
Shiny Tops Certainly Grab Your Attention

A top, as opposed to a dress, has far less light catching area for the eyes to rove and they will alight on the boobs far more readily.

Men In Black 2 and Sin City Actress Rosario Dawson is a busty gal and knows exactly what she is doing wearing this silk top. Satin and silk tops catch the light and therefore draw the eye. You can of course forgive a Hollywood actress as she has to battle other glamour-pusses on the red carpet to attract the cameras.

You just have to think, do you want that attention? Possibly at a party it might be okay but during the day? At work?

The red top is an even better example of this problem. What this whole site is about is de-emphasizing the bust. It is just as important for a lady who is top heavy to understand what not to wear for big busts, as to understand what works well.

The Patron Saint of Satin Dresses

Dolly Parton regularly wears glitzy outfits. Now do not get me wrong, I am a Dolly fan. She is however a walking paradox in that she wears very modest necklines and yet by wearing tight, gleaming material she ensures you do not miss those curves.

She talks of dressing "trashy" and jokes her look was inspired by the 'town tramp' but she is a very smart operator and knows exactly what she is doing. Oh and if you want to read more on Dolly Parton fashion simply click the link.

Shiny Silk and Satin Dresses Can Make
You Appear Larger

Another very important issue with glossy or shiny material is that it has the effect of making the outfit seem larger. It may be an optical illusion but it is generally not one that works in your favour. It is a bit like the fact that you appear fatter when on television.

As I repeat many times on this site, the word broader or larger are not words you want to be associated with your chest.

Satin Dresses For Big Boobs

Jessica Simpson Women's Off Shoulder Color Block Satin Dress

Having raised a few cautions about these dresses I think it is only fair to show a few examples of the style which can look good. Below are two products 'designed' by Jessica Simpson. I have never tried this brand but I like to think a woman with naturally big boobs herself should cater for other big busted women.

I also note that both dresses look roomy in the hips which is a good thing, well at least it looks that way on this undoubtedly super slim model. The off the shoulder and diamond necklines are certainly a good look for women with big boobs.

By contrast, I show a long evening gown with a fishtail skirt and the classic V neckline. Also a dusky pink cocktail dress with lace at the neck and hem.

One final thought. You do not want a glitzy top but do want some glamour. How about a glitzy cardigan or jacket but a 'plain' blouse beneath?

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan
