Satin Dresses and Silk Dresses Require Caution

Yes satin dresses and their pretty sister, silk dresses are classy and feel great but for a buxom lady they require caution. Indeed any sparkly dresses or tops carry the same warning tag for the busty sisterhood - 'What not to Wear'.

Now that is not to strictly say you should not wear them, quite the opposite; you simply need to be aware. Aware that they catch the light and instantly draw the eye.

As you can see, light catches the eye on silk dresses and immediately draws the eye. Yes I know the Indian actress Rakhi Sawant is showing a lot of cleavage but ignore that and look at the effect of the shiny material.

Similarly with satin dresses. As ever Sofia Vergara looks gorgeous and is a role model for big busted women. Now this picture raises an important issue. If the whole outfit is the same shiny material the eye is not drawn to the chest.

Below I demonstrate the same principle for sparkly dresses as satin dresses. It is not a honing beacon for your bust if the material is the same throughout.

Shar Jackson certainly sparkles but your eye is not drawn anywhere in particular on her top. Even the famous bust of Miss Dolly Parton does not immediately draw your eye in one of her rhinestone and satin dresses.

Silk Tops (should) Carry
a Warning Message

"All that glistens, is not gold".

That boy Shakespeare knew a thing or two about fashion, oh and he wrote some good plays too!

The best way to explain this is by showing some examples.

Shiny Tops Certainly Grab Your Attention

Men In Black 2 & Sin City Actress Rosario Dawson knows exactly what she is doing wearing a silk top.

Satin and silk tops catch the light and therefore draw the eye. You can of course forgive a Hollywood actress as she has to battle other glamour-pusses on the red carpet to attract the cameras.

You just have to think, do you want that attention? Possibly at a party it might be okay but during the day? At work?

The red top is an even better example of this problem. What this whole site is about is de-emphasizing the bust. It is just as important for a lady who is top heavy to understand what not to wear, as to understand what works well.

The Patron Saint of Satin Dresses

Dolly Parton regularly wears glitzy outfits. Now do not get me wrong, I am a Dolly fan. She is however fascinating in that she wears very modest necklines and yet by wearing tight, gleaming material she ensures you do not miss those curves.

She talks of dressing "trashy" and jokes her look was inspired by the 'town tramp' but she is a very smart operator and knows exactly what she is doing. Oh and if you want to read more on Dolly Parton fashion simply click the link.

Shiny Silk and Satin Dresses Can Make
You Appear Larger

Another very important issue with glossy or shiny material is that it has the effect of making the outfit seem larger. It may be an optical illusion but it is generally not one that works in your favour. It is a bit like the fact that you appear fatter when on television.

As I repeat many times on this site, the word broader or larger are not words you want to be associated with your chest.

One final thought. You do not want a glitzy top but do want some glamour. How about a glitzy cardigan or jacket but a 'plain' blouse beneath?

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan
