Short Sleeve Blouses
For Big Boobs

So, short sleeve blouses for big boobs? Yes or no? Well, like all tops for women, these come in a variety of shapes, colours, styles and brands.

The key issue as ever is choosing clothes that suit your body shape and one issue that is often overlooked is the length of the sleeve. So yes they can and do suit busty women, you just need to watch out for one fatal error!

This site is not produced by a retailer or manufacturer so I am not trying to sell you any brand or line. I think you probably know what sort of things you like.

That said I have lifted a lot of these pictures from Amazon. I am not necessarily recommending these items merely using them to illustrate the points raised.

This article is advice on the effect of short sleeves. So you ensure the blouses that you buy suit your body shape.

This seemingly irrelevant issue can actually make quite a surprising difference to your look and it can be achieved in a really subtle way for good or bad.

Sleeves on Short Sleeve Blouses

This article explores:

  • The effect of the hem length on your bust
  • Various styles of sleeve length
  • The issue of fat / thin arms.

The Effect on Your Bust

So starting with the key issue to be aware of.

When you look at someone for the first time, your brain does a number of almost instantaneous thought processes in conjunction with what the eyes are telling it.

The effect of sleeve length
Where should a short sleeve end?

One of the most important and instinctive is staring at naked flesh. Not naked boobs, just any naked flesh. Our primaeval minds cannot help but be attracted to it. So when the eyes see bare arms, the eyes will travel down one arm, leap across the body and travel up or down the other.

In so doing, the eyes draw an imaginary line across the body. Whilst the eyes are concentrating on the naked flesh, because the mind is racing at mega speeds it still has time to compute a thought process about that imaginary line and it will give it slightly more prominence.

This may not concern you but it is certainly something that big busted women should at least consider when buying short sleeve blouses.

If that line travels across the bust, it makes it look bigger in the mind's eye. So if you wish to de-emphasize your bust, ensure you have sleeves that stop either above or below the line of your bust (roughly nipple height). If you wish to promote your bust, simply do the opposite.

Vero Moda Women's Ella Short Sleeve Blouse

If you look at these two modestly endowed ladies you will see how their busts gain more prominence because your minds eye is drawing an imaginary line across from sleeve to sleeve.

It is for this reason that many big busted women should choose to opt for sleeves which stop either below or above the line of the bust.

High Hem Short Sleeve Blouses

This is a far better look. The sleeve length is far higher than the bust line.

These two examples of tops for women have high hems which almost makes them sleeveless. The advantages are that there is a lot of very modest naked flesh (the arms!) on show which is always a bit cheeky.

Two long vertical strips of flesh will also draw the eye down which tends to give the illusion of length too. Great if you are happy with your arms, particularly those of you with lovely toned arms.

Above The Elbow

Above the elbow, is obviously below the bust and works well too. This is principally because the wider upper part of the arm, the bicep, is not showing.

This is not to suggest for a moment you may be muscle-bound. Simply that it is highly likely your bicep will be wider than the area around your upper elbow and it is always best to promote a slimmer profile.

Below The Elbow

Now I know these pictures are not actually technically short sleeve blouses but they are often called that. Usually and more correctly they are described as three quarter length sleeve blouses.

The hem that finishes on the upper wrist, below the elbow is much favoured by stylish women everywhere. That part of your arm is considerably thinner than the parts above it and for this reason a really good length.

These two examples are slightly different in that one is a transparent over top and the other is a tunic top as opposed to a traditional blouse but it is simply there to provide you ideas and to show you that there is a lot of variety available. The tunic comes in a variety of patterns and colours but I was trying to demonstrate the shape.

So to summarise, generally it is better to have the hem either above or below the elbow on any short sleeve blouses for big boobs, or alternatively above the bust line or full length.

Angled Short Sleeved Blouses

If I may go off at a tangent briefly (and yes that is yet another appalling pun, in which I specialise), angled sleeves are certainly worth exploring.

A nice variation on the standard straight or horizontal hem is to have angled sleeves. You will find that these invariably slope into the body.

As you can see I am not commenting on the examples I have chosen to demonstrate these concepts. Primarily because you will have your own ideas of what styles, brands, price band, colours etc you like so I am merely providing ideas.

Other Variations

There is a whole host of varieties of sleeve size and shape for example; sleeves with holes cut out, long sleeves, ones that stop on your lower wrist, wide or puff sleeves, batwings, tulip shapes the list goes on and on.

If you are looking at short sleeve blouses for big boobs you will naturally tend to look at the material, pattern, trims, colours, fits etc.

I merely ask that you now look at the effect the sleeve has, if any, on the outfit and your body shape.

Do You Worry About Fat Upper Arms?

I apologise if I put that a bit bluntly but I could not think of a politically correct way to put it. It is one of those annoying things in life that women tend to put weight on that area around the upper arms as they get older, or when they put on weight.

Remember the lesson above. The eyes will seek out naked flesh and draw an imaginary line but still have time to make a note on what is happening on that line. If you place the hem of the sleeve at the thinnest point of your arm, the brain will deduce that your arm must be thin.

Of course this is somewhat absurd because the upper arm is bound to be thicker because of the biceps but the brain is moving at light speed and does not have time to think of things like that, it is simply computing what it sees.

The arms generally taper

Now I apologise to the above two ladies in advance for putting their photos under this title. Neither has fat arms, far from it. I am merely trying to illustrate the point, all arms taper down and the narrowest point is at the wrist.

Q. So what is the solution?

A. Having a hem line just below the elbow. This is the slimmest part of your arm and if that still does not work you should consider full length sleeves.

Below I use two more examples of the BBC Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, a lady that clearly understands this concept.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It would really help me improve the site profile if you would click the Facebook 'Like' button. Pretty please! Susan

Do Short Sleeve Blouses Suit Big Boobs?

short sleeve blouses for big boobs

A simple enough question. Do short sleeve blouses suit big boobs? Yes of course. In fact the exposed arm flesh will draw the eyes down.

Although in the above example I would suggest the necklace is sitting too low.

short sleeve blouses for big busts can work

Another real life example of short sleeve blouses for big boobs in action. The sleeve length is good, the V neck always works well but unfortunately wearing a black bra beneath a white top is a fundamental error.

It just goes to show how all the little style issues add up and equally how getting one small element wrong can ruin an otherwise good look.

3/4 Length Sleeves

Three quarter length sleeves are a great look as not only does the hem stop way below your bustline but it also stops at a narrow part of your arm, which tricks the eye into assuming your whole arm is narrow.

The lady in the pictures is Carol Kirkwood a busty British BBC (how about that for alliteration!) television weather presenter who often wears this length on dresses and tops.

She almost always dresses well and so it is no surprise she opts for this style.
