Short Sleeve Jackets and Tops Are
Fraught with Danger

Short sleeve jackets are potentially a very poor look for a big busted woman. In fact this warning applies to all tops for busty women. Ignore the danger signs at your peril! Get it wrong and it can ruin your look.

A classic 'what not to wear' for big busted women.

Now do not get me wrong, I do not mean all such jackets. Many styles work wonderfully well. It all depends on the exact length.

There is a selection of short styles down the right hand column which are absolutely fine. You therefore need to be quite specific

What I am talking about in particular is the sleeve that finishes in line with your bust. Thankfully most manufacturers recognise the issue and it is not that common.

Short Sleeve Jacket - Red Alert

The eye is always attracted to bare flesh and will hone in on the joint of the sleeve and the arm. It will immediately flash across to the other arm and do the same thing. It has just made a line straight across the bust.

This is unnecessary attention you do not need. Therefore when looking to purchase short sleeve jackets, watch out for this simple rule.

It is all About the Hem

Now compare these two pictures of the same chest. It is a kind of optical illusion in that the bust on the right looks bigger. It is not the colour, in fact the purple is slightly darker. Can you feel how your how draws an imaginary line across, between the bottom of the sleeves.

Actually it would be a far better example on the dress on the right was just another inch longer. There is a better example further down the page.

Yes I should know better, because sadly it is me dear reader. The thing is I really like the colour of that purple dress. My solution, I usually wear a thin cardigan over the top.

...and yes I know it is not actually a short sleeved jacket but I am struggling to find pictures which illustrate my point, so I am using other examples of short sleeve tops.

I accept it may seem like a very subtle difference but it is these seemingly small style issues that can really add up. Also, if you really do not want people constantly staring at your breasts it is worth using every trick you can, or avoid every pitfall.

Is There a Way To Alter
a Short Sleeve Jacket?

You have a jacket that you really like, the colour, cut, pattern or style work really well on you but it has sleeves ending at just the wrong point. Can anything be done?

Yes. The good news is that there are two possibilities. You can either 'take up' the sleeve, to reduce it's length. Or lengthen it. This is more difficult because it is highly unlikely there is sufficient material in the sleeve to take out.

It can still be achieved by carefully adding a trim. A lace or gauze effect  may work well but you can be imaginitive because different trims, materials and colours will suit different short sleeve jackets.

A final trick is to wear a thin long sleeved top beneath the jacket. This of course may not be possible in a hot climate, or may simply not go with the jacket's look.

Short Sleeve Blouses

Now do not get me wrong. This lady has a more than ample bust and it is difficult to hide that fact but you do not want to highlight it more than you need to.

It is a great example because the sleeve is exactly horizontal with the fullest part of her bust.

I know short sleeve jackets and blouses may seem fairly innocuous and are often overlooked but actually they can have quite a big impact. They are one of the classic style issues where you can get everything right with your outfit and then be tripped by a small detail.

Okay. Maybe it is not the end of the world but take a look at the photos of any well dressed ladies on this site pages and you will rarely see a short sleeve which is horizontal with the bust.

The Short Sleeve Shirt

The short sleeve shirt; a staple of summer wear for so many of us and an everyday garment for those of you who live in warmer climes.

Actually I think the young lady on the right shows this concept almost better than her bigger busted comparison because you might think your eye is drawn to the boobs in red simply because they are big. Whereas your eye is still drawn to the distinctly more modest bust on the right.

Did you like this page, did you learn something, maybe it reinforced you own views? I want to give as much (hopefully helpful) advice to the busty sisterhood as I can.

Please remember, we are all different. You may like to wear certain clothes and styles which I am suggesting that you should not. That is your absolute right. Do what makes you feel good. This site undeniably goes for the more modest approach because I feel all busty ladies already know how to be more racy if they wish.

It is by no means all  jackets

The following are examples where the shape, size or positioning of the sleeves make them work well - albeit that they are technically 'short'.

Dolman sleeves may be a variety of length but they rarely highlight the bust.

The offset sleeve is stylish and becoming more and more commonplace.

Cropped but high above the bustline. Good proof that short sleeve blouses can look fabulous.
